 Dear  friends,

Calling  you  all  from  Norway.  A  bit  west  and  far  north  compared  to  where  most  of  you  are.

I  have  a  friend  in  Denmark  who  has  a  group  of  Etroplus  Canarensis  in  his  1000  litre  tank.
He  is  not  aware  of  any  knowledge  of  how  to  bread  this  beauty.

However  they  have  spawned  in  his  tank  on  two  occasions.  The  first  time  the  male  eat  all  the  eggs  right  away.
This  time  he  has  a  lot  of  eggs  and  the  mail  are  warding  them  all  the  time,  (so  far  about  30  hours)  but  the  female  is  kept  away.

Does  anyone  on  this  forum  have  any  specific  knowledge  of  breading  this  difficult  sepsis,
or  if  any  article  is  written  about  biology  and  behaviour?

Welcome  to  IAH,  Josti.  You  may  want  to  check  out  this  thread.

There  have  been  several  reported  spawns  of  this  fish  in  aquaria,  however  all  fry  raised  have  been  done  so  artificially.  It'll  be  interesting  to  hear  about  your  friend's  experiences.

 Thank  you.

I  have  passed  this  info  to  my  friend.
If  anything  else  can  be  said,  please  continue  mailing.
I'll  try  and  be  back  on  what  is  happening  in  Denmark.

 Dear  friends,  I  am  back.

Well,  the  canarencis  breading  from  March  5  this  year  can  now  be  concluded  successfully.
There  are,  apart  from  a  few  already  sold,  still  108  very  healthy  fishes  swimming  around,  now  6  months  old.      Thumbs Up
The  fries  were  with  the  group  for  some  days  after  free  swimming.  But  due  to  too  much  traffic  and  for  safety  Peter  chose  to  take  them  over  to  a  separate  tank  and  feed  them  there  and  he  really  succeeded.  He  had  one  male  and  4  females  in  the  tank.

Are  there  now  many  reported  breading  of  this  beauty  around  the  word?

However  I  don’t  know  how  to  transmit  photos  to  this  forum  or  to  see  others  photos.  Any  advices?

 Hi,
Why  cant  you  make  a  blog  and  add  pics  there,  and  post  the  link.I  dont  know  whether  this  is  allowed  in  IAH.  recently  Hayath  did  it,  and  me  too,  and  it  works  well.  I  added  a  hit  counter  also,  and  counting  the  viitors  there.  I  am  not  an  expert  in  computers,  but  I  think  this  method  saves  IAH  from  huge  file  load.

Lets  see  if  I  have  sorted  it  out.
Here  are  the  canarensis  about  a  week  after  hatching  in  March  08.

Here  are  some  of  them  after  about  6  months.
 Yongsters  in  Denmark

And  here  the  parent  group  just  arrived  to  my  fish  house  in  Norway  and  they  will  in  just  a  day  or  so  get  much  better  accomodations
 Parent  group

The  floating  greens  are  just  plant  debris.
When  cutting  plants  in  other  tanks  it’s  dumped  in  to  the  EC’s  tank.
They  don’t  last  long  in  there.

Thats  the  biggest  number  of  EC  I  have  ever  seen  in  one  tank.
Care  to  export  some  back  to  us  ?  :)

What  parameters  did  they  breed  in  for  you?
