 Hello,

I  am  from  Mumbai  and  have  a  setup  which  is  around  6  months  old  now  and  I  need  to  add  some  stone  structure  using  small  but  heavy  stones.  Could  anyone  recommend  a  suitable  adhesive,  which  could  be  safely  used  to  stick  two  stones  together,  and  which  would  be
non-toxic  to  the  fishes  in  the  aquarium.

Many  of  the  artificial  plants  are  fixed  to  shells  using  some  white  coloured  adhesive.  Where  could  one  procure  these  ?  Is  araldite  safe  to  use  in  aquarium  ?

Would  appreciate  some  tips  on  where  to  procure  the  right  type  of  adhesive  in  Mumbai

Silicone  that  is  normally  used  to  stick  glass  should  do.  Check  out  a  hardware  store  for  it.  Dow  Corning  and  Wacker  are  common  ones  found.

 no  araldite  n  feviquik.

and  ensure  that  the  adhesive  has  dried  completely  before  putting  the  stones  back  into  your  tank.

Silicone  is  what  you  should  be  looking  for  ...  Dow  Corning  is  a  trusted  brand.  I  have  also  used  Dr.  Fix  it  which  should  be  easily  available  in  india  at  most  Hardware  stores.  Dow  would  be  available  only  at  select  stores  in  mumbai.  Try  Lohar  Chawl  or  the  market  around  there.

Ask  any  glass  vendor  or  LFS  guy  about  the  silicone.

That  wasn't  Fevicol.  That  commercial  was  of  feviquik.

As  for  topic  i  think  silicon  will  be  best  and  safest.

Make  sure  you  ask  for  aquarium  or  glass  silicone  sealant.  Normally  the  LFS  guy  shud  have  it.  you  can  buy  the  gun  from  any  hardware  shop

 Hi

I  too  am  looking  for  a  good  aquarium  safe  silicone  for  making  my  glass  aquarium.  From  this  discussion  i  find  that  the  following  brands  have  been  discussed:

 DOW  corning
 Wacker
 Dr.Fix
 Walker

Of  these  i  could  find  only  Dr.  Fix  -  It  is  not  recommended  for  fish  tanks(by  manufacturer)
About  DOW  corning  -  another,  more  recent  thread  reveals  that  this  too  is  not  recommended  for  aquaria
I  have  got  another  brand  "  Resi  bond"  -  it  isn't  supposed  to  be  fully  immersed  in  water  either

The  attendant  in  the  store  recommended  "fevibond"  -  I  wonder  if  this  is  good

My  LFS  when  asked  said  they  use  an  imported  silicone  which  they  get  from  chennai.  They  charged  me  1200  just  to  come  and  make  the  tank(I  have  the  GLass)

looking  for  suggestions  from  this  forum.

 thanks

 An  Update,

I  have  used  "resi  bond"  brand  of  silicone  to  DIY  my  aquarium  32LX15Wx18H.  I  filled  it  up  with  water  today,  it  seems  to  be  holding  fine.

Now  i  have  to  make  a  canopy  -  looks  like  i'll  be  making  it  from  biopac  like  tango.

This  is  indeed  an  excellent  forum  for  DIY

Recently  I  had  visited  Lohar  Chawl  (Mumbai).  There  I  saw  GE  2000  Silicone   (General  Purpose)  at  very  reasonabe  rate.  Any  body  from  IAH  used  it  before  for  making  tank?  Its  performance?

I  have  used  Wacker  to  make  all  my  tanks,  some  of  them  are  nearly  a  year  +  old  and  i  have  not  faced  any  issues.
