For  the  size  of  your  tank  one  11W  pll  is  more  than  enough...Get  it  in  6500k  range.
I  am  confused  with  the  info  you  have  given  regarding  the  22"  T5.do  you  mean  its  a  22  inch  lenght  or  a  22w  T5  lamp,  which  I  don't  think  is  the  standard  wattage.

 Regards

 The  22"  T5  lighting
*  is  14W  this  is  what  is  available  off  the  shelf.  With  9W/gallon,  the  light  intensity  is  more  than  twice  that's  used  on  aquarium  with  high  intensity  lights.  On  smaller  tanks  the  light  requirement  is  high,  but  are  you  dosing  â€“  CO2,  fertilizer  &  is  the  Aquarium  densely  planted,  at  least  75%?  These  are  few  things  that  need  to  go  along  with  high  lighting.  In  the  past  there  have  been  quite  a  few  discussions  on  IAH  that  you’ll  find  relevant  to  your  scenario.

BTW,  if  you  intend  to  keep  it  low  maintenance,  a  6W  CFL  is  enough  -  no  CO2,  no  dosing  &  low  /  moderate  plant  density.  Needless  to  say  you  need  to  choose  the  plants  accordingly.  Nano  Aquariums  are  more  challenging  &  therefore  a  better  option  is  to  upgrade  to  24"x12"x12"  aquarium  with  low  lighting  setup  using  the  existing  lamp.

 Harshal,

*    22”  T5  lamp  that  Gaxtor  is  referring  to  is  actually  its  ~21.6”  (549mm).  T8  have  been  ruling  for  quite  a  while  now  &  18W  is  commonly  referred  to  as  â€œ2  feet  tube  light”  or  â€œ20W  tube  light”.  People  refer  to  the  T5  lamp  with  the  same  naming  convention  â€“  2  feet.  T5  lamps  be  it  24W  or  14W  have  the  same  length  &  this  difference  does  not  matter  to  a  common  man,  all  they  want  is  a  replacement  lamp  to  fit  the  light  fixture  &  it  should  light  up!  HO  &  HE  though  are  present  in  the  market  is  still  a  long  way  to  make  its  presence  felt  in  households  appliances  for  the  common  man.  They  are  still  to  get  a  hang  of  addressing  the  T5  lamps  by  wattage  or  technical  name.

Same  is  the  case  with  the  4  feet  T5  lamp,  it’s  actually  ~45.2”  &  still  referred  to  as  4  feet  T5  HO  or  HE  lamps.

Dealers  too  have  an  equal  poor  understanding  â€“  If  we  ask  for  a  T5  HO  24W/840,  he  will  ask  for  sample  first  &  for  all  you  know  is  he  will  give  you  T5  HE  lamp  that  has  the  same  length  &  looks  similar.  When  you  say  this  is  not  one,  he  will  still  say  â€œit’s  the  same  sir!”  &  until  you  show  him  what’s  written  on  them  is  different,  he  will  not  budge.  He  too  hasn’t  seen  them  &  it  hardly  makes  any  difference  to  him,  how  many  such  people  come  to  ask  for  these  lamps,  one  in  hundred!  His  target  is  the  other  99%  who  ask  for  T8.

 Hi  Deepak

Thanks  for  the  clarification.  I  do  agree  with  you  about  the  dealers  being  ignorant....but  a  few  of  us  are  trying  to  make  some  difference  with  technical  guidance  for  the  clients.  Hope  the  fever  catches  on  Smile

   Regards
