Very useful information for a newbie!!! Could you give some more information on the air pump that has been used and how the inlet and outlet of the air pump has been fixed on the canister???
I used an 'air cooler' pump, not an air pump. The cooler pump is exactly same as aquarium pumps/powerheads, but cheap.
As mentioned before...The pump has a slip type(can be pushed inside to fix) nozzle, so I drilled a 1/2" hole on lid, permanently fixed the nozzle, the pump can be pushed in to attach from the other side of the cap.

Thanks Hamza, will try to replicate the cannister with some of the modifications suggested by retro-gk and shanker. This would mean i would be seeking clarifications from you as the project progresses. Right now i am off to look for a 5" PVC pipe and cover fittings.!!!

I had the same query about placement. 1.Will it work diffrently if placed horrizontaly ?
2.As its seen Only One PUMP is used to get water out of tank and and again lift the total height of CANISTER.By placing horizontally above tank level , do you think we will need PUMP with less power? And slight inclanation at delivery end will cause water directly in to tank with small WATERFALL effect..

One question to all the diy experts. Why is it that all cannisters have the pump in the cannister.?
I was thinking of a having the powerhead in the tank and channelise the output to the filter and take the output. This way i can reduce the size of the cannister by utilising all the available space in the cannister for the filter. Again the reason for a smaller canister is due to space constraint and presentability.

A longtime pending update to this thread....
The canister had a leak after an accident and the lid system didnt proved good for many a reasons, so it needed a change...and thats why I couldnt respond to most of your queries earlier. My apologies....
So heres how I modified it further...
Modification 1 - The lid design is inspired by Mr.Perikarupan's ultra acrylic canister. I felt it necessary to mention this point foremost.
It uses 6 bolts(instead of 8 ), one on each of its side to hold together two 6mm thick hexagonal acrylic sheets, one attached to the canister body and other holds the pump and acts as a lid.
The rubber gasket is custom made with thick rubber sheet.
These PP bolts are used to secure the hood, these can be tightened by hands with ease.
Modification 2 - To the base a tank barb is attached along with an elbow and further a push barb to insert into a flexible pipe.
You can also notice the crude m-sealing for the bottom lid to waterproof the joint.
Modification 3 - The long ugly, leaky ball valve attachments were replaced by pvc union ball valves, that can be seen i the picture below.
Now all the parts that undergo impairment overtime(like barbs and valves) have been made replaceable with temporary(but strong) joints using tephlon tape instead of some permanent adhesive. Now this doesnt makes the canister disposable due to minor problems.
Previously canister inlet cracked when it slipped off my hands down the staircase and the crack was irrepairable. So I wanted to have this feature, specifically.
I have leak tested it at high pressure(keeping the water container 2meter from ground and more than 3' apart from the canister) for a couple of week now and its successfully running on my planted tank, Wilderness Unexplored.
So here it is, my canister as a whole....
It uses pot scrubs>coarse thick sponge>fine filter wool from bottom to top as filtration media and does an effective job.
Looking forward to your comments/queries on this....

Hamza,
Can you please put up a detailed list of items used along with the cost of each(if possible) and their specifications??
Also about the custom made DIY acrilic and the rubber gasket. Will be grateful

@Viresh...
The pump used is rated 750lph, it gives a steady current out of spraybar.
I am guessing it pumps out 500-600lph with just a feet below the tank and with media.
@Vignesh...theres no noise most of the time. But at times for some reason makes a lil noise(vibration not exactly a noise), very little though, hardly noticeable with all the background noise coming from neighbourhood(college, generators, hospital, etc).
@Natbox(dont know your name)...heres the list of items and their prices...
PVC pipe(110mm), 4mm thick - purchased this last time, dont exactly remember the price, might be 30-40/foot Rs80/-
110mm dummy lid - Rs40
Screw lid - Rs 60(now I have removed the threaded part to stick the acrylic sheet)
6mm clear acrylic, got a 16x12" sheet for Rs 120
two tank barbs(1/2") for inlet and outlet - Rs30
One plastic elbow - Rs10
3Xcouplings plastic - Rs25
6Xhose barbs(1/2") - Rs60
2XUnion ball valves - Rs150
One PVC tray(110mm) used under the canister lid has a convex bottom - Rs30
Pump and wires - Rs150
And the most expensive part
12xPP bolts n nuts(kept 6 in spare) - Rs240(20each set)
If we consider only 6, then Rs 120 went on the filter.
3xTeflon tapes(10m), I wasted a lot of these - Rs 30
Araldite - Rs60
PVC cement - Rs20
M-seal - Rs20
Total cost - A lil over a thousand bucks!(without media)
Media costs another 100-150bucks.
@Admins and mods...These are non-fishy prices, hence posted in open forum, if you feel this still offends the forum rules, you can remove them.

@Hamza:
you call me nata.. :)
So you have removed the threaded cap from the design and replaced it with the acrylic plate.
you stuck the acrylic to the PVC pipe using Araldite cement ?
i can see a cap in the pic you posted on top of which seems to be the Acrylic sheet.
