Livestock Import Procedure.
Announcements There has been a lot of talk regarding the legal method of importing of live stock. Which is why i am putting up this article. Something that needs to be said here is that any one who is interested in importing livestock in our case Fishes & Water Plants etc should go through proper government channels as put in this article. The DGFT Director General of Foreign Trade is the nodal agency to get a license. To import Fishes or Plants you have to apply for a Special Import License from the local DGFT in your area & also send copies of the same to the Delhi DGFT. A visit to your local DGFT office will give you a clearer picture. The procedures & some of the forms that you will encounter are as below.
The reason for this article is so that we can have a lot of people applying for a license. This should help in making the procedures simpler & faster. Licenses can be applied for uder two categories
1.) Importation for Personal use.
2.) Importation for commercial use / sale.
If there is any thing any one thinks i can help with please let me know.
With best regards
Rohit

A Long and Salty Journey...
MiscThis story is of a cute little Lionfish (Pterois volitans), that has changed the most number of hands I’ve ever known a marine fish to do. The flashback goes back into the time when I had just begun to experiment with marine invertebrates, having kept and killed every possible fish. : )

I step into a store, Lucky Aquarium, in Thane, near Mumbai, and browse through the tanks as usual. Nothing unusual is expected, until I speak to the LFS guy. He promises me a pair of sea horses at a price I could spend without a second thought. I delightfully pay him an advance and go straight back home to prepare an empty 2 footer for the expected arrivals. Part of the live media from another tank comes in handy here.
