I  am  planning  to  shift  my  fishes  from  Goa  to  Mumbai.
I  do  not  have  oxygen  cylinder,
is  thr  any  other  way  to  transport  fish.

Taking  oxygen  from  welding  shop  is  advisable???
or  should  i  search  for  medical  oxygen???

 Regards,

 Rahul,
I  don't  see  much  of  a  difference  in  them  for  packing  fishes,  Oxygen  seems  to  be  the  same  in  both  application,  but  the  difference  being  how  its  filled  in  the  tanks  for  different  use..

Yes,  you  can  use  the  oxygen  that  the  welding  shop  has.  It  will  have  a  lower  percentage  of  O2  thats  all.  Make  sure  you  double  bag  all  fish  and  dont  add  any  plants  in  the  bags  as  they  will  instantly  start  to  produce  CO2  in  the  dark.

Before,  we  can  tell  you  something,  we  need  to  know  how  many  fishes?  What  size?  How  long  do  you  thing  the  'transportation'  will  last?  Once  you  reach  your  destination,  how  soon  will  you  put  them  in  a  tank,  etc.  Depending  upon  that,  packing  with  Oxygen  or  even  just  carrying  them  in  parlpet  jars  can  be  done.  My  guess  is,  LFS  will  pack  it  for  you  that  will  easily  last  12  hours  plus,  the  issue  is,  once  you  have  reached  your  destination  how  soon  do  you  take  care  of  them.  May  be  you  may  want  to  carry  some  water  from  your  existing  tank.....

 Hi  Rahul,

It  also  depends  on  your  mode  of  transport.
I  can  tell  you  how  I  did.  My  mode  of  transport  was  by  Car.  I  had  one  silver  arowana  in  a  boyo  tank,  which  is  relatively  sturdy  for  transport.  I  had  emptied  half  of  the  tank  so  that  water  will  not  spill  in  case  of  breaks  etc.  Had  kept  one  battery  operated  air  pump  along  with  a  existing  sponge  filter.  Had  removed  rod  for  the  top  filter  as  may  hurt  fish  in  the  transport.

Since  I  was  transporting  with  the  tank  in  a  car  there  was  movement  of  water  at  the  top  layer  of  water  with  oxygen  exchage  with  open  air.  I  really  did  not  require  air  pump,  but  kept  it  for  sponge  filter.

I  could  not  have  done  this  with  a  regular  custom  made  glass  tank.

My  travel  time  was  also  less  than  you,  from  Mumbai  to  Surat(Around  7  hours  with  slow  travel).

I  Did  not  feed  the  fish  for  around  12  hours  before  travel.  and  6  hours  after  the  travel.

Fish  started  eating  normally  after  that.

In  your  case  getting  them  packed  will  be  a  better  choice.

 Good  luck.
