I am new to IAH and I am glad to be here. I have been doing this hobby for more than 20 years but every time I have a loss my fishes die I leave a huge gap till this hobby creeps in again. So my last fish was a flower horn which was with me for about 3 years and died due to reason unknown. I left the hobby for about 3 years and again started it now. This time I wanted to make my take a adorable Goldy tank. Follow the basic instructions from IAH and this is my first time trying fish keeping in Bangalore.
I brought my old tank (3LX1WX1H all in Feet) to life again and my old sponge filter was good to use it. Let the tank to cycle with all decorations placed and bought a two pairs of adult gold fishes looked very healthy. First one died on the third day after setup, which was quite active than other. Since it was a new setup my family members was too ignorant to over feed them without knowing about Gold fish.
Later my favourite goldie in white started to sit idle and it's mouth started to look odd, two days passed it became worse and it's mouth started to corrode, now she is missing her lips with a open mouth. Now the fish looks like a Zombie fish. She couldn't eat properly, but she is as good as new after moving it to QT. I am using the local fungal medicine from the fish store. Looks like it is working to a level, but cure in nowhere seen near.
Please help me save her! My QT is not a glass tank, so I can't give you a clear photo now. If you really need I can post it, but trust me no one would ever like to see a cute beautiful Goldfish like this.

After reading your post, I just googled it and got to know this is a serious bacterial mouth disease on goldfish.
I don't want to sound like a Doc or expert but you should stop your fungal med as that is going no where.
Probably more experienced goldfish people can answer. Clean tank, clean water are must.
Meds are available but not sure if the lips will grow back.

Yes, even I got the same information everywhere, but nowhere the real cure is given. In most websites if it gets severe the fish can't bare and it die eventually.
Yesterday I cleaned the QT and examined the fish. She is quite active, fins look great and moves around. So I cleaned my main tank and brought her back to my main tank. She looks happy and eats food, but still the mouth has damage. Now after treating her with the fungal medicine I could see the bacteria spreading is completely stopped.
Let me put he in the main tank and observe changes. Will keep you guys posted on the changes.
Few pics of the affected fish and the partner for comparison. Please pardon the photo quality:

Firstly, I would recommend asking google, as to what all you should do in the process of setting up a new fish tank. Also, check on google to find out why fish in a new tank die on the third day. You have mentioned that you have let the tank cycle with the ornaments, etc. What exactly did you do, to bring about this cycling? A fish dying on the 3rd day is a prime indicator of an non-cycled tank. The ammonia cycle has not yet been established.
Here's the catch, goldfish are usually able to survive this cycling. Does your water contain chlorine, or ammonia or chloramine? Use a test kit, to find this out. Before adding water to the tank, let it stand overnight with an airstone running in it.
Fish will get mouth infections if they try to eat food from the gravel, and the gravel is not aquarium safe. The gravel or other ornaments may have sharp edges, which hurt the fish's skin, and it gets infected.
I am just saying that, there are umpteen number of reasons which may have caused your fish to die. Please diagnose further before buying any new fish.

Nighty! You have mentioned the most basic things.
Apart from that gallons per fish ratio.
Gold fish are pond fish, they can't be kept in a small aquarium. They are cold water fish. But nobody has ever put a chiller!
Watch the food you been feeding!
Intestinal distress in goldfish is a very common problem.you fist want to avoid this by feeding foods with the best ingredients and keeping your fish in water with the Proper Electrolyte levels.
It is also important to soak dry fish foods (especially pelleted foods) for 5 minutes to prevent ingestion of air that is trapped within dry fish foods, this air can lead to indigestion or even severe problems such as Aeromonas Bacteria infections.
Pet saaf toh sab thik
The amount of food you feed. They say as per theory the size of fish tummy is as its eye balls. Hence you gotta take care of feeding quantity. Metabolism of fish is very low. It requires less food. No to 3 times a day lfs slogans.
Good Water parameters are must for goldfish, lifespan of goldfish are 25 to 30 years in captivity.
Flowehorn they stay 10 something years but can't get past 3 to 5 in captivity because life of a fh depends on its genetics, food and water para.
Most of the feeds for fh are laced with hormones. Life of a fh who has been overfed is generally less then the one moderately fed. But who the hell does? They want nunnys and heads and colors. Lolz
Apart from that whatever creates stress on the fish ducks the fish. In fh cases extensive breeding, breeding before maturity etc.
Most of the breeders focus on physical attributes then definitely it will result in genetically weaken fish.

You buddy bought your old tank and old SPONGE filter to life and live fish to near death. Much appreciated that you posted the issue hence we all can learn from others.
Sponge is nearly extinct in western countries. People these days have MarinePure, seachem matrix, k1 moving bed, sintered glass, ceramic rings etc etc

Gold fish are very high bioload fish. You have put fish in a uncycled tank. How long did you cycle it.
Do you have a ammonia test kit, if not get one.
You also need a good quality filter, a simple sponge filter is inadequate for a gold fish tank.
As your fish are responding with the treatment continue the treatment as given on the bottle.
Keep up with large water changes, always decholrinate the water.
You need to dilute both ammonia and nitrites.
